Welcome to the Minnesota State Council website. Our official name is Minnesota State Council of PeriOperative Registered Nurses, also known as MNSCORN.
The purpose of our state council is to have all AORN chapters and members in Minnesota come together to address perioperative practice issues, to monitor and introduce legislative activity affecting healthcare delivery. To be one voice representing perioperative nurses in Minnesota.
The benefits of having a state council are to increase support for nursing legislation, and to educate our state legislators and public on what perioperative nurses do and their importance in the operative room. It is also a way for educational opportunities happening in the state to be share with all nurses.
History of MN State Council
A decision to form a state council was officially agreed upon at the AORN Congress 2005 in New Orleans. Darn Prescott, Heartland Chapter, initiated the formation of the state council. Joyce Miller, Hiawathaland, agreed to help co-chair. In July, 2005, Darin Prescott accepted a position on the Minnesota Board of Nursing, and due to a conflict of interest, could no longer co-chair. Norrie MacIlraith, Hiawaland chapter member and state legislative chair, agreed to co-chair the Minnesota State Council.
Our first state council meeting was held in St Paul, MN on November 5, 2005. In May of 2006, our state council was offically recognized by AORN. Since initation of our state council, by-laws and polices have been drafted and approved, tax exempt status has been achieved, officers are in place, and our first legislative activity occured in March 2007 with AORN nurses collaborating with our nurse colleagues from MNA on Nurses Day on the Hill.

Meetings
Our state council meets twice a year. At Congress and then in the fall. The fall meeting is hosted by different chapters to rotate the meeting site.

Consider Joining our State Council
Chapter dues are $25.00 a year (Jan -Dec). Individual membership is $12.00 a year.
